Ga. county's schools charging back tuition

FAYETTEVILLE (AP) - The Fayette County school system is charging back tuition to parents caught sending their out-of-county children to its schools.

School district spokeswoman Melinda Berry-Dreisbach says almost $60,000 in back tuition has been collected from families whose children were not residents of Fayette County.

The school system told WSB-TV (http://bit.ly/mW2XNy) that 255 students from outside the county have been removed from Fayette County public schools in the past two years.

School officials say they're charging $8,000 per year in back tuition for each out-of-county student found to have attended classes in Fayette County unless they qualify for a special exemption.
