Mistakes cost Lady Redskins in 6-4 loss to George Walton

The Social Circle Lady Redskins failed to remain undefeated in region play Thursday in Monroe after falling 6-4 to the George Walton Academy Lady Bulldogs.

Mistakes and lack of execution were key in the loss as the Redskins failed to take advantages of opportunities and allowed the opposition too many.

"Mental, it’s all mental and it’s frustrating because physically we can play with anyone but we have to stop making mistakes," Social Circle coach Kimberly Lamb said.

George Walton Academy jumped out to an early lead after a close play at second base kept the lady Dogs alive in the first inning with two outs. When it looked like George Walton would keep control of the game, the Lady Redskins began to chip away late in the game with an RBI in the fifth inning by Kenzie Maddox. Keontre Bagley knotted the score at 4 in the sixth inning with when she hit the game tying RBI on a fielder’s choice, on the same play freshman Lindsay Link was caught in a rundown between third and home resulting in the third out and ending the Redskins chance of taking the lead in the game.

The Lady Dogs would add two runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning that would prove to be enough to take the win. It looked as if the Redskins would go into the last inning all tied with another chance to take the lead, but after a two out walk freshman pitcher Lexi Griffin gave up a two-run home run that cleared the left center field fence giving the Bulldogs all the runs they would need to take the win as the Redskins would go down in order in top of the seventh inning.

The Lady Redskins will have one more chance to avenge this loss as the meet the Bulldogs again on Sept. 8 at home. First they will look to learn and improve from their mistakes as the take on Athens Christian and Commerce on the road this upcoming week.
