Dry conditions cause brush fires in Atl.

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (AP) - Fire officials say an abnormally dry August has led to a rash of brush fires in metro Atlanta and north Georgia.

Gwinnett County fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge says a brush fire that began late Monday was doused several hours later after scorching about two acres of woods and brush along Interstate Highway 85 near Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports (http://bit.ly/nkdhy5) that early Tuesday, a brush fire was reported along the CSX railroad tracks near I-285 in Cobb County.

In Gordon County, a brush fire in the Farmville community east of Calhoun burned for more than three hours on Monday.

Hot and dry conditions are forecast to continue for the next few days.
