House of Mouse

Joy Bratcher/

Allen KenKnight has a collection like no other. Ever since his dad took him on his first Disney trip when he was 8-years-old, Allen has been collecting Disney memorabilia by the numbers. He has different rooms in his home decorated top to bottom with all things Disney, along with his mortgage office in Loganville. In his home there is a Winnie the Pooh, "Cars" and a Mickey Mouse room.

"The trip was a surprise for my birthday," Allen said. "I fell in love with the place and all things about Disney. When we got home, I started collecting immediately. I received the inspiration for the rooms at the house because my daughters loved Winnie the Pooh, and Mickey is just the classic character of the franchise."

In his home and office, one could find anywhere from 100 to 150 pieces of art of Disney characters. When asked about how many total pieces he has, he says there's too many to count.

"My favorite painting that I have is of Lady and the Tramp. It is the one and only original paintings done by the actual artist who created them," Allen said.

"My most prized piece that I own is a huge oil painting of Lady that I have in my office. 'The Lady and the Tramp' is my favorite movie, so that's why both of these are valuable to me," he continued.

Allen and his family have annual passes to Walt Disney World in Florida. They have been on eight Disney cruises and plan to take their ninth this winter.

"I've only been to the Disney World in Florida. None compare to it, because the other ones aren't as big or as entertaining as Florida's. Most of our friends that have been to other Disney locations agree with us," KenKnight said.

"My favorite Disney hotel would have to be the Wild Lodge. It's the most relaxing, and you can't help but feeling at peace when you're there. It's the best place to stay," KenKnight continued.

KenKnight and his wife Teresa have been to every spring flower show at the Walt Disney World resort in Florida. They also go to the wine festival every year.

"The flower festival has been going on for 18 years, and we've been to every single one of them. The resort is always beautiful at that time of year," KenKnight said.

One random Disney fact that KenKnight knows is that Mickey wasn't the first character that Walt came up with.

"Walt drew Oswald the rabbit on a napkin one day. Before he was able to copyright it, Marvel comics stole the idea and made it their own. When Disney recently bought out Marvel comics, one of the agreements was that Disney gets the copyrights back to the character Oswald. Although I don't see them doing anything with him, he's definitely going into the vault."

A person can find all of the Disney movies in his home. His favorite classic Disney character is Mickey Mouse. Absolutely.

"Mickey represents the Disney franchise. He's the classic character that everyone has to love. One of the main reasons why I love Disney so much, is because everything they do is fun and perfect. You can never have a bad day at Walt Disney World. Even in my office, whenever I'm having a bad day just seeing the looks of the customers' faces when they walk in always turns it around. It's a great icebreaker."
