Eyes on the sky

Submitted photo/

Social Circle resident Theo Ramakers always keeps an eye to the sky. Thursday, he took this image of the International Space Station and the Space Shuttle Atlantis as it tracked across near the sun's equator.
Ramakers is a NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador, part of a group of NASA/JPL trained volunteers. He is also the outreach coordinator for the Charlie Elliott Chapter of the Atlanta Astronomy Club.

"Even though the clouds would impact the quality of the image, I had to do this. This is an image for the scrap books, and the history books as well,' he said in a release.

The Atlantis returns on Thursday to Earth, marking the end of the shuttle program.

The Charlie Elliott Chapter of the astronomy club meets at 5 p.m. on July 30 at the visitors center of the Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center in Mansfield. See ceastronomy.org
