Things to do this Fourth of July

Newton County Events

Covington
The City of Covington will host its holiday festivities on Sunday, July 3 beginning at 3:30 p.m. According to the city's website, there will be two stages showcasing music from McKibben Music and the Newton County Community Band.
In addition to the music, the city will showcase the food and shops of the Covington square. The celebration will end with a firework finale over the square.

Porterdale
Porterdale is set to start its July 4 celebration at 3 p.m. with vendors and children's activities.
From 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., the Shane Millwood Band will be playing before the fireworks start. The fireworks display can be viewed from The Depot.
"They are really trying to outdo last year," said Customer Service Representative Martha Cain. "They really do a good show."

Oxford
Oxford will be hosting its annual parade the morning of July 4, starting at 10 a.m.
Community members who would like to be in the parade should come sign in by 9:30.
"All you have to do is just get in line and march," said Tereta Johnson, treasurer and secretary of Oxford.
Although the parade happens every year, there is still room for making this year's parade unique.
"The newest members of the administration are really trying to liven things up this time," Johnson said.

Social Circle
Over in Walton County, Social Circle will host a variety of activities for Independence Day. There will be a parade, car show and the celebration will culminate in a firework display.

Fabulous Fourth
The Georgia International Horse Park hosts the eighth annual Fabulous Fourth Festival on Monday, July 4, starting at 5 p.m., with fireworks starting at dark. Festivities include a patriotic program, starting at 7 p.m., honoring the 10th anniversary of the War on Terrorism, the Ultimate Air Dog show, the canine Jump for Heroes fundraiser for the Walk of Heroes Veterans War Memorial, Corvettes in the Park Car Show and Nostalgic Japanese Street Fighters Car Show, concerts by The Jordan Rager Band, The Rockingbirds and Barney Fife and Gomer Pyle walk the grounds with the Memories of Mayberry strolling actors. Vendors, food, and kids attractions will also be featured. Admission and parking are free. Coolers and pets are prohibited. Large crowds are expected, so guests are encouraged to arrive early. Community Barbecue
Levett Funeral Home of Conyers hosts the annual free Community Barbecue on July 4, 1 p.m. - 6 p.m., at the Veal Street Park in Conyers. For more information, call (770) 483-9885.

Fireworks on the Lawn
Crossroads United Methodist Church, at 2460 Ga. Highway 138, in Conyers hosts the Fireworks on the Lawn celebration, July 4, starting at 7 p.m. For more information, call (770) 638-7438.

Fourth of July in Centennial Park
Centennial Olympic Park has one of Atlanta's biggest July 4th celebrations and firework shows. The fun starts at 2 p.m. with fun, family activities and there will be free musical entertainment starting at 3:45 in the afternoon, continuing throughout the evening. The 2011 headlining act is Crystal Bowersox, known from "American Idol." Attendees are encouraged avoid the traffic by riding Marta to Peachtree Center of the CNN Center stations.

Fireworks at Lenox Square Mall
Another big fireworks show in Atlanta is at Buckhead's Lenox Square Mall. Complete with a kids zone and live music, this celebration has the largest fireworks show in the Southeast. The fun starts at noon, when the Kids Zone opens, and goes until 10 p.m. Musical entertainment begins at 6 p.m.

Decatur Square Fourth of July Celebration
Start the evening off with the Pied Piper Parade as it winds through downtown Decatur. You can participate by decorating your wagon, riding your bike, skating, or even just walking in the parade. At 7 p.m., free musical entertainment starts in the square, followed by a fireworks show.

Star-Spangled Snellville
Snellville will celebrate on July 3, 3 p.m., with the Star Spangled Snellville Celebration on the Town Green, featuring concerts, classic car show and food. Also on July 3, First Baptist Snellville will hold its American Celebration from 5 p.m. - 9 p.m., with fireworks at dark.

Red, White and Brew Beer Fest
The Georgia Aquarium is hosting a Fourth of July celebration and beer tasting on the roof of their parking deck, giving you a prime viewing spot for the Centennial Park fireworks. There will be Jim n' Nick's barbecue and live music provided by The Yacht Rock Revue. Tickets are $45 per person.

All-American Celebration with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra
The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will play patriotic tunes outdoors at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater. There will also be a fireworks show.

Lawrenceville fireworks
Lawrenceville will celebrate July 3, starting at 5:30 p.m., at the Gwinnett County Historic Courthouse, 185 West Crogan Street, featuring Aurora Theater's staging of "Beauty and the Beast," and fireworks. Lawn seating is free, table and catered dinner for six is $125; alcohol prohibited at the courthouse. (678) 226-2639
