Our Thoughts: Happy Father’s Day, dad

/

Father’s Day was introduced as an official U.S. holiday in 1972. While there is a special day marked on the calendar each year, we at The Covington News work to honor our fathers each and every day.

Your community newspaper is made up of fathers, sons and daughters, and each one of us is grateful for the man who raised us. We decided to use this space to say thank you to our fathers this week.

Lee Ann Avery, circulation: To my dad in heaven… I miss you and love you so very much.  Not just today but every day!

Annette Benton, advertising representative: Daddy (Leroy Reed), you are the absolute best father a girl could ask for! You’re such a quiet, but strong presence; always demonstrating what it means to be a man of integrity. You’ve always been there for me, and I love you more than words could ever express. Your first born!

Cynthia Blackshear-Warren: My father, Hollis Blackshear, was a hard worker, great provider, strong in his Faith and loved his daughters and grandchildren. He taught me so much about people and life. I miss the days that we would just sit and talk and your daily check-in phone calls. Daddy, if you were here with me I would tell you that you are my inspiration, thank you for the foundation you laid for me. Rest in Peace, I love you and miss you each and every day. Cynthia.

Debbie Burgamy, advertising director: My Dad was my hero for as long as I can remember. He was a calm person who looked at things logically and from all angles. He had more friends than anyone I have ever known. He worked hard, but he enjoyed playing some, too. He was my sounding board, and I would love to have his advice today.

Amanda Ellington, circulation director: My daddy was the sweetest, kind and loving dad my brothers and I could have ever asked for. He was my dad and I was his little girl. Love you daddy.

Hosanna Fletcher, general manager: Father: Whether you are thinking of our Heavenly Father, your daddy or the father figure in your life, Fathers play such a vital role in our lives. The guiding light, the steady hand, the touchstone.  The protector, the defender, the motivator.  Thank you to all the fathers out there and to mine!

Aimee Gethers, advertising representative: My dad, Don Fenton, is my hero!!! I have always been a daddy’s girl and always will be. My dad has always given me unconditional love and has always been there through the ups and downs. Happy Father’s Day dad!!! Love you.

Susan Grajko, advertising representative: Being the only girl out of three children, I was a little bit spoiled, especially by my dad. My dad and I had a wonderful relationship and I was definitely "daddy's girl." My dad was in the Army for 22 years and though he was supposed to be a "tough guy" he was actually a gentle giant. He was an even tempered, low key man that rarely raised his voice. I find it no coincidence that I married a man just like him as my dad set a great example of what a father/husband should be and I miss him terribly.

Jackie Gutknecht, news editor: My entire life my dad has told me, “No matter how much you look like your mother, you are most definitely all me.” Following in your footsteps has been the biggest honor I could have asked for. While being just like you might have gotten me in trouble a time or two, there is no one else I would rather have to answer to. Happy Father’s Day, I love you!

Erica Hardeman, legals clerk: To the first man I ever loved.  You have always been a true example of what family is. You gave me the greatest gift anyone could have ever given me, you believed in me.  I will always love you more than you know and I will always be your little girl.

Brian Worton, webmaster: Dad, few things make me feel as proud as the fact that you are my father. You have been through so much in your life and I am forever grateful for the wisdom and knowledge you have given me as a result of that. I love you, dad, have a great Father's Day.
