NHS evacuated due to bomb threat, law enforcement determined call was hoax

This afternoon Newton High School (NHS) received telephone threats from a person indicating that a bomb was in the building, according to a press released from the Newton County School System (NCSS).

School officials immediately evacuated the building and called Covington Newton County 911. All students and employees were evacuated without incident and law enforcement and fire department officials searched the school.

The building was cleared and it was determined the threat was not credible. Students returned to classes to gather their belongings and have been dismissed for the day.

Please know that the school system takes these types of threats very seriously and asks anyone with information regarding the identity of the person who phoned in this prank to please contact the Newton County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) at 678-625-1400
