Geocaching event scheduled for Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center

Time to treasure hunt at Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center. Join representatives of the Georgia Geocachers Association (GGA) at the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center on March 11 for a fun and informative education session. Experienced or newbie geocachers are sure to discover great info at this free event.

Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices, like a cell phone or other GPS-enabled device. Players navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates, and then attempt to find the “geocache” (or container) hidden at that location.

What will you learn?

  • Geocaches have different ratings for difficulty levels (related to container location or terrain), allowing geocachers to select caches that fit their skill level.
  • What is a “log-roller?”
  • Why you might want to bring along a UV light
  • Why magnets can be helpful

Experienced geocachers will be on hand to help you learn how to improvise helpful tools, give demonstrations, and answer questions.

This event is scheduled for March 11 at 1 p.m. and will start at the Campbell Building at Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center.  What do you need to do to attend? Registration is required, so call (770-784-3059) and let us know you are coming.  Event will be held rain or shine.
