Social Circle creates two positions

The city of Social Circle will soon have two new positions in the public safety department.

Public Safety Director Tom Fox made the request, telling the Social Circle City Council at its meeting Tuesday that the two positions would allow him to complete the goal of a totally integrated department by the end of the year. The council approved the positions in a unanimous vote.

Fox also informed the council that the five-member Social Circle Explorers group that had attended a competition in Tennessee had placed second in "Quick Dress." The team competed against 300 others with a total of 3,250 people.

In other business, the council:

• Unanimously approved the application of an alcohol pouring license for Buckeye’s, as was the request of Social Market to have a retail malt beverage and wine license.

• Fox presented a code enforcement plan that will be carried out in the coming weeks. The plan will address several structural and aesthetic violations, and work will begin immediately to get those things in order.

• The council approved a 3 percent cost of living adjustment for all employees effective March 1. This will be a total of $17,865.28 the current budget year.

The council will meet again at 6:30 p.m. on March 15.
