Police looking for weave thief

Officers from the Covington Police Department are searching for a man caught on video early Friday morning robbing the Beauty and Wigs store on U.S. Highway 278.

Officers from the Covington Police Department were called to the store, located in Newton Plaza, around 3 a.m. When they arrived, they saw that the front door of the business had been broken out. When the owner arrived, they were able to watch the security video of the robbery.

According to reports officers could see a black male walk up to the front door of the business. The male was wearing a dark sock hat, light colored hoodie and sweat pants. After knocking out the glass in the front door, the man walked behind the counter with a white trash bag in hand and snatched hair extensions from the wall behind the counter.

The extensions, valued at $80 each, were the only thing the thief took before running out of the business.

Anyone with information regarding the theft is asked to contact the police department at (770) 786-7605.

Juvenile strikes mother over phone

A 14-year-old juvenile is facing simple assault charges after allegedly striking her mother several times over a cell phone.

Covington Police officers were called to a home on Green Acres Court Thursday afternoon, and when they arrived, they found the teen girl being physically restrained by a family member. After speaking with the child’s mother, they learned that the girl had become upset when her mother was trying to fix a cell phone and became verbally abusive towards her, using profanity in the presence of a 6-year-old child.

The teen then allegedly struck her mother several times in the face and head with a closed fist, causing bruising and visible swelling, according to reports.

The teen was placed under arrest, charged with simple battery under the Family Violence Act and third degree cruelty to children.
