Social Circle teen honored

Nia Smith

While some high school students are worried only about how they’ll spend their winter break, Social Circle High School senior Nia Smith is worried about the future of the youth around her, making her a perfect fit for the Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Year representative.

A four-year member of the Social Circle Boys & Girls Club, Smith recently became a Junior Ambassador in the association with the Social Circle Better Home Town Association. She is also an honor student.

"One of the most appealing things about Nia is her character and her attitude," said Darrell Corder, director of the club.

"She is modest, always composed, respectful and considerate. But most notable is her quiet resolve and humble attitude," he said.

Smith has received numerous awards from the club, most of them for leadership and involvement, Corder said. The recognition as Youth of the Year is the highest and most esteemed honor that a club member can receive.

"Nia is not one to seek recognition or notoriety," said Corder. "She avails herself to her responsibilities with a persistence and commitment unparalleled by her peers. She is a leader amongst the teens; a mentor and role model to the younger members."
