Washington Street hosts 6th annual casino night

Afros, dashikis and go-go boots will abound at 7 p.m., Saturday at the Alcovy Road campus of DeKalb Technical College, as Washington Street Community Center plays host to its sixth annual Casino Royale fundraiser.

The 70s themed-night is being titled "Groovy Nights" and will feature professional casino gaming tables, entertainment, dancing, food and spirits.

Casino night is one of the center’s key annual fundraisers. Executive Director Bea Jackson hopes to raise $40,000 to help pay for the variety of arts, culture, recreation and tutoring programs the center offers.

Tickets are $50. You can be designated as a sponsor with a donation of $250 to $4,500.

A ticket includes "gaming" money and drink tickets. There will also be numerous raffles for prizes, including sport event tickets and paraphernalia and weekend stays at vacation destinations.

"We rely on the entire community to support casino night, and they do support us in many ways," Jackson said Tuesday. "We want to thank the individuals, businesses and churches for helping us continue to run our programs."
