Board of Education - District 3

/

Kevin Wade, Republican

What is your definition of success in life: Success in life would be defined as being happy with your life. Can you be successful and have no money? I think so, because, your success comes from doing what you love and having people around you that you love. To me, money is an added bonus to these two things.

Do you own an iPod or other mP3 player? Why or why not? If you do own one, what’s playing on it: Yes, I do own an iPod. The reason I have one is to listen to music, podcasts, watch movies, and play games when I travel. My playlist consists of Christian music. My favorite artists are Michael W. Smith, Chris Tomlin, Steven Curtis Chapman, and the list goes on. My favorite song right now would be “Our God,” by Chris Tomlin, which lets me know that the God I serve is on my side.

Do you own an iPad or other tablet device? Why or why not: I do not own an iPad, but I would love to own one someday; however, I do own a MacBook Pro. I like Apple products because of their innovation and multipurpose use.

Who is your political role model? Why: My political role model would be Ronald Reagan, because he understood the importance of economic growth: to reduce taxes and to reduce government involvement in the lives of the citizens.  He was also a great conservative.

What are you reading right now: “Simple Church: Returning to God’s Process for Making Disciples,” by Thom Rainer and Eric Geiger.

What’s your favorite television show: My favorite television show right now would be “Smallville.” This is the last and finale season. I like this show because, growing up, I was fascinated with superheroes, and this show is about how Clark Kent struggles to become Superman. My 4-year-old loves superheroes, right now, and hopefully, one day when he gets older, we can watch the episodes together.

What is your strongest personality trait: I would say that I have two strong traits: listening and dependability.

What do you see as the most important issues facing the Newton County School System in the next few years: I believe the most important issue facing our school system is the budget. The economy is recovering at a slow pace, and it will be awhile before the revenues from the state and local levels are back up to the levels they were before the recession hit. This is why the citizens of Newton County need to have someone on the board with a consistent and solid financial background. I have seven years of financial experience, and I do believe being an accountant with the largest airline in the world gives me an advantage. I will look at each line item to ensure that the spending is done wisely, effectively, and most of all efficiently.

What is your definition of success in life: Success to me is defined as making a difference in the life of others without expecting something in return.

Do you own an iPod or other mP3 player? Why or why not? If you do own one, what's playing on it: Yes, I do own an iPod because of the therapy that music can provide. I have a variety of genres in my iPod but I am currently listening to a heavy rotation of gospel music that includes the Rev. Marvin Sapp.

Do you own an iPad or other tablet device? Why or why not: No, I don't currently own an iPad but I do own a laptop computer that, I believe, serves my needs well. I have, however, entertained the idea of looking into purchasing an iPad in the future.

Who is your political role model? Why: Jimmy Carter's continued willingness to be a public servant today many years after serving as President of the United States of America is very inspirational. His work through The Carter Center in "Waging Peace, Fighting Disease and Building Hope" speaks volumes to his admirability.

What are you reading right now: Philippians 4 in the Holy Bible. My father's current illness is very trying for my entire family and this chapter gives me the guidance and strength that I need on a daily basis.

What's your favorite television show: “Grey's Anatomy.”

What is your strongest personality trait: My strongest personality trait is my assertiveness and willingness to fight for what I believe in.

What do you see as the most important issues facing the Newton County School System in the next few years: I believe that the most important issues facing the Newton County School System are making sure that all of Newton County schools meet Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), that our school system is a passing school system, that we are able to manage budget shortfalls and that the mandate of "No Child Left Behind" of 100 percent of all student should be reading at their appropriate grade level by 2014 be met. This alone is difficult for any school system.
