Camille Durden McWilliams

Camille Durden McWilliams died Sept. 1. She was born in 1944 in Covington, the daughter of the late Elder Nehemiah and Eula Durden. Early in life she joined Bethlehem Baptist Church where she was an active member until her death. Mrs. McWilliams was a graduate of Washington Street School and R.L. Cousins High School. She held a Bachelor of Arts from Spelman College, a Master of Arts from Atlanta University and a Specialist in Education from Georgia State University. She taught science in Hillsborough County, Fla., and in Newton County. She was an assistant principal at Sharp Middle School and retired as an assistant principal of Newton County High School. Mrs. McWilliams had a passion for teaching, singing and children. She was deeply devoted to her son Nick and her extended family. She was preceded in death by siblings Willie Maude, George, Nehemiah and Rosa.

Surviving are son Mr. David Nicholas McWilliams; sisters Mr. and Mrs. Willie Harold (Bertha) Johnson, Mrs. Corrine D. Campbell; brother Mr. Anthony L. Durden; brothers-in-law Mr. Leon Hill, Mr. Henry F. Johnson; sister-in-law Mrs. Willie Mae Durden; aunt Mrs. Ruby Durden; many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

Funeral services were held Sept. 6 at Bethlehem Baptist Church with Pastor H.K. Benton Jr., Pastor Theodis Bell Jr., the Rev. Reginald Williams and Minister Robert James Durden officiating. Interment followed in Lawnwood Memorial park.
