A former Covington woman was charged with murder Tuesday in the 2007 death of her 5-week-old baby.

Quanitta Yvette Turner, 25, was charged with felony murder in the death of her infant daughter. According to Newton County Sheriff's Office Lt. Tyrone Oliver, deputies received a call about a baby who was unconscious and not breathing on Nov. 19, 2007. On the way to Newton Medical Center, the child died.

Investigators initially interviewed Turner, then 22, who reportedly told them she had been sleeping and had rolled over onto the baby. The little girl began to cry and it caused her to wake up. She told investigators that the baby was fine so she went back to sleep.

An autopsy was performed on the child shortly after her death and the medical examiner could not determine the cause of death. Oliver said that investigators recently decided to take another look at the case to see if it warranted further investigation.

They called Turner, who now lives in Decatur, in for an interview Tuesday. She told investigators that she had suffered from post-partum depression and reportedly admitted to killing her child nearly three years ago.

"She said the baby was crying and crying and wouldn't stop," said Oliver. "She said that she got mad and things got carried away."

Turner is facing charges of felony murder, concealing the death of another and cruelty to children. She was denied bond and she remains in the Newton County Detention Center.
