Locals to hold Tea Party Sat. on square

The local Tea Party movement appears to be growing and local advocates will hold their second meeting this summer from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday on the square.

Organizers are hoping to have a handful of speakers, including Mary Alice Carter, a candidate for the Georgia House District 125 seat, and Jody Hice and Rob Woodall, two candidates for John Linder’s vacated U.S. House District 7 seat. All three candidates are Republicans.

Co-organizer Luke Knight said he’s not sure whether the candidates will still attend the Tea Party if they lose Tuesday’s primary.

Knight will be the event’s emcee and will try to inform the audience about some of the winning local candidates from the state and federal primary elections. Audience members will periodically be allowed to come up and speak to share political information or opinions.

Knight previously hosted a Tea Party at his house in late June. More than a dozen people attended that gathering, but Knight and fellow co-organizer Richard Gregory are hoping more than 100 people will attend Saturday’s event..

Gregory said U.S. Rep. Linder also may attend. For information, call Gregory at (678) 625-3344.
