Ronald Cary Hart has qualified to run for the District 1 seat, which is being vacated by Johnny Smith, of the Newton County Board of Education.

Hart decided to run for the seat in order to be more involved in his daughter’s high school education in a meaningful way.

“She has three years remaining at Alcovy High School,” said Hart. “With my background in education and my work with schools in my current career, I feel that I can be a positive voice for excellence in Newton County Schools.”

Hart has a Bachelor of music education from Troy State University and a Master of Science in education administration and supervision from Troy as well. He also holds a six-year certification in education and administration and supervision and he is the regional manager for Music and Arts Centers Inc.

He believes that his more than 18 years as a teacher and administrator in public education will be helpful if elected to the board.

"My experience in business also gives me the opportunity to understand working with personnel and budgets," said Hart. "I will pray about all decisions being made and know that God will lead my actions."

Hart thinks the top issue facing District 1 in the coming years is the lack of adequate funding for schools.

"Unless we find ways to fund education, we will continue to lose teachers and support personnel that are vital to the success of our students," said Hart. "I also feel that athletics in the middle schools is a critical factor in the success of many of our students in the middle school level."

Hart is married to Kathy and has a daughter named Paige. He is an active member of The Baptist Tabernacle in Covington.
