Dist. 5 hopeful Price withdraws from BOE race

Travis Price

District 5 Board of Education hopeful Travis Price has withdrawn from the race.

According to a press release from Price, he learned that he had a non-life-threatening medical situation three days after qualifying. The treatment required includes a month of physical therapy and the possibility of future surgery.

"With a heavy heart, I prayed over the decision with my family and decided I must do what is right for my family and the people of District 5. I can’t properly campaign or represent my district at 100 percent with the amount of time I need to dedicate to getting well," he said in the release.

The District 5 race now has three contenders; republicans Abigail Morgan-Coggin and James Walden and democrat Sharon Sawyer.

"We are in a battle, a long battle, and I encourage each of you to stay active," said Price’s release. "This is your school board and you have the power to make changes even though many times it feels you do not. I encourage all of you to vote, it is the only reminder we can send to elected officials that our founders intended for this people to run this country, not politicians."
