Newton County Board of Education District 3 hopeful Kevin Wade said that he decided to run for the seat for his 4-year-old son Ashton who will begin Pre-Kindergarten next year.

Originally from South Georgia, Wade decided to bring his family to Newton County where his wife is from when he was hired in the accounting department of Delta Airlines.

"We loved the community, it placed us close to my wife’s family and we knew that the schools were already some of the best in metro Atlanta," said Wade. "I want to get involved and make a difference in our community and our schools.

Wade hopes to bring creativity to the board and to be a good listener. He thinks that his background with Delta can help in figuring out where money is being spent currently and where adjustments can be made. He also said that involvement within the community is paramount.

"I am concerned about our children receiving the very best education that is available to them to prepare them for the challenges we face in our world today," he said. "Our children need to be equipped to compete in a global society with the best and brightest minds in our world. That starts with placing a heavy emphasis on what takes place in the classroom. Even in recessionary times we need to preserve the classrooms and do everything we can to attract and keep the best teachers for our children in Newton County."

Wade has an accounting degree from Valdosta State. His wife Amy Cheek Wade grew up in Newton County and his son will attend Palmer Stone Elementary School next year.
