Detectives from the Covington Police Department are looking for three men who are accused of robbing the employees at Kay Jewelers at gunpoint Monday afternoon.

Officers were initially called out to the store in the Newton Plaza shopping center around 12:32 p.m. They met with a woman who was standing near a vehicle with her baby who told them she had witnessed the robbery and had called 911.

According to the witness she saw a "fat" dark-skinned black male, about 5-foot-9-inches tall and 250 pounds, with a low hair cut and goatee, wearing a white sleeveless undershirt, cross the street in front her as she was driving.

She allegedly said the second male was black with a medium complexion and about 6-feet tall, wearing a long-sleeved shirt and multi-colored jeans; the third man was described as about 6-feet-3-inches tall, thin, wearing a white sleeveless undershirt and carrying two Coach purses and what appeared to be a money bag in his hands. She said they had left in an older model black truck with rust on it heading toward the Kroger gas pumps.

According to the two victims who were working at the time of the robbery, two of the men came into the store and went over to the wedding rings. She reportedly told officers that a third man came into the store and to where she was sitting behind the register and told her to lie on the ground face first. Two of the men were armed with handguns.

CPD Detective Daniel Seals said that one of the men smashed a jewelry case and injured himself in the process, leaving blood behind. That one suspect should have an injury to his hand or arm. It is also believed that in addition to the older model black truck, they may also have left in a silver minivan.
