Two people were arrested in connection with a June 4 robbery that occurred after a man met up with a woman he spoke with on a chat line.

According to Newton County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Cortney Morrison, the man spoke with a female calling herself "Apple" on Quest Chat line, and after speaking with her for several days, set up a meeting at a clubhouse in the Neely Manor subdivision. When he arrived, she got into his car, and shortly thereafter two black males approached the vehicle, one pointing a gun, and demanded his belongings. The victim reportedly handed over his wallet, cash and a cell phone, then the two males ran in one direction and "Apple" ran away in the opposite direction.

After investigating, two people were arrested and charged with armed robbery. "Apple" turned out to be 21-year-old Darryea Scott and one of the black males was identified as 17-year-old John Franklin Brown Jr. Investigators are still looking for the other black male who is only described as being in his early 20s.

Morrison also said that investigators are looking into the possibility that this armed robbery may be connected to an armed robbery that happened late last month when two black males crawled through the drive-thru window of the Crowell Road McDonald's and robbed employees by gunpoint.

"We want to stress to the citizens to be extremely cautious when meeting people from the internet or telephone," said Morrison. "If you do decide to meet in person, make sure you get as much information about the person as possible so that situations like this do not occur."

Anyone with information about either robbery or the identity of the other black male is asked to contact the NCSO at (678) 625-1400 or online at www.newtonsheriffga.org. All tips can be given anonymously.
