NCSO offering second firearms safety course

Sheriff Ezell Brown and the Newton County Sheriff’s Office are offering a Citizens Firearm Safety Course for 2010. These classes will consist of information on laws governing the use of deadly force, firearm safety at and away from the range, nomenclature of the basic revolver and semiautomatic pistols. Additionally, participants will have a chance to complete a course of fire at the Newton County Sheriff Firing Range.

Participants must be at least 21 years of age, consent to and pass a criminal background check, and produce a valid Georgia drivers license. Participants must also supply their own ammunition. Firearms and ammunition must be in good and serviceable condition. The second Citizen’s Firearm Safety Course, "Class 10-02" is scheduled for Saturday, July 10, and Saturday, July 17. The classes will be conducted from 8 a.m. to noon. You must attend both classes. If you are selected, you will be notified by mail. However, since the NCSO prefers to notify those interested by e-mail, applicants should provide an e-mail address.

If you have any questions, please contact Deputy Wayne Scott, Range Master, at (678) 625-1542 or Lt. Paul Gunter, Agency Training Coordinator, at (678) 625-1444.
