NCSO to offer summer firearm safety courses

Sheriff Ezell Brown and the Newton County Sheriff’s Office will offer Citizens Firearm Safety Courses in July. These classes will consist of information on laws governing use of deadly force, firearm safety at and away from the firing range, nomenclature of the basic revolver and semiautomatic pistols and a chance to complete a course of fire at the Newton County Sheriff Firing Range.

The safety course will be two four-hour blocks on two consecutive Saturday morning, July 10 and July 17 from 8 a.m. to noon. The first class will be classroom instruction at the Newton County Law Enforcement Center. The second will be at the Newton County Sheriff Firing Range.

Participants must be at least 21 years of age, consent to and pass a criminal background check and produce a valid Georgia Driver’s License. Participants must also supply their own firearm and ammunition. The firearm and ammunition must be in good and serviceable condition.
