Faithworks fundraiser will make the rafters ring

Choirs and performers from among the 35 churches that support Faithworks will lift their voices high in a fundraiser to benefit the ministry on Friday, Feb. 26.
To date, performers include choirs and groups from First United Methodist Church, First Baptist Church, First Presbyterian Church, Porterdale Baptist Church and Good Shepherd Episcopal Church. Local Covington city councilperson Janet Goodman, known for her rousing performances, is on the bill, as well as local businessman Robert Rhoades who will be singing a song he composed especially for this event.
The Church at Covington is hosting the event scheduled for 7-9 p.m. "Admission is free, but we hope attendees will feel it in their hearts to make generous donations to go toward our strained coffers," said Della Royston, event chair. Sandwiches and homemade desserts will be available from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
"We're very excited about the interest in the community in support of what will be a fun and fund-raising evening," said Kendra Boone, Faithworks board chair. "Coming together for a good cause helps to create a sense of community and to increase awareness of the needs of others."
In its first four years of operation, Faithworks has made grants for rent and utility assistance totaling over $500,000, according to Dennis Cheek, executive director. "The great majority of those funds come from our sponsoring churches, but we are also blessed to receive grants and gifts from businesses and individuals throughout the year."
Applicants are required to submit documentation of the emergency for which they are seeking assistance. Investigators seek additional information to confirm the validity of the request. Rent and utility assistance are paid only to landlords or utility service providers.
The ministry takes applications from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. For further information about Sing-A-Song of Love or about Faithworks, call (770) 784-1884.
