John Marion Stone

John Marion Stone, 90, died Saturday, Feb. 6, at his residence. Marion "Pooch" Stone was a lifelong resident of Jasper County. His parents were the late John Arthur Stone and Estelle Loyd Stone. He was a graduate of Young Harris College and served in the 105th Medical Battalion in the 30th Infantry Division of the United States Army during World War II, the first World War II draftee in Jasper County. Mr. Stone was a member of the Monticello First United Methodist Church, the Monticello Hurricane Club, American Legion Post 110, VFW, and a founding member of Piedmont Academy. He held many positions in Monticello. Mr. Stone was employed by Holland Chevrolet and was a bookkeeper for many businesses and individuals. He was also an insurance agent for the J.S. Wilson Insurance Company. He retired as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service in Monticello. His grandson John Dewey Fisher preceded him in death.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Helen Millen Stone of Monticello; son and daughter-in-law Lee and Katrina Stone of Norcross; daughters and son-in-law Ann and Dewey Fisher of Jackson Lake and Jay Childers of Monticello; grandchildren Amanda Fisher Edge, Joshua Fisher, Jonah Fisher, Andrew Fisher, Johna Childers Artessa, Jason Childers, and Ben Pendergraft; great grandchildren Joselyn Edge, Joseph Edge, and Pearson Cole Fisher; and sister and brother-in-law Helen and Joe Whitehurst of Macon.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today, Feb. 10, at the Monticello First United Methodist Church. Interment will be held in West View Cemetery. Dr. John Brown and Pastor Dewey Fisher will officiate. Serving as pallbearers will be Joshua Fisher, Jonah Fisher, Andrew Fisher, Jason Childers, Wes Whitehurst and Wade Whitehurst. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Monticello First United Methodist Church, 651 College Street, Monticello, Georgia 31064.
