Social Circle body identified

4 arrested on murder charges

The body of a man found on Clegg Farm Road just outside Social Circle Sunday afternoon has been identified as 38-year-old Robert Andrew "Drew" Nichols and four men have been arrested and charged in his murder.

Michael Scott West, 31, of Covington, Chad Ashley Allen, 30, of Walton County, Robert Vincent Lambert, 35, of Covington and Sam Dumas Dawkins, 44, of Covington, have all been arrested and charged with felony murder in connection with Nichols’ death, which has been ruled a homicide.

Nichols was found in a wooded area by a deer hunter and his body was transported to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for autopsy. According to Newton County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Tyrone Oliver, the cause of death is multiple gunshot wounds and investigators are still trying to determine how long he had been there, but the cool temperatures are making it more difficult than normal to do so. Investigators do believe that Nichols was killed in Newton County and then dumped in Walton County.

The four men arrested may still face additional charges and Oliver said there may be more arrests to come in the case. He also declined to offer motive but did say they do not believe that drugs was the motive for the killing.

"This investigation is still very much active," he explained. "We are investigating all leads."
